The Text and HTML Versions of E-News

Midwifery Today E-News is available in text-only and HTML versions. You can preview the current edition of each version by clicking the following links:

As you can see, only the HTML version contains graphics and color.

E-Mail Clients for HTML E-News

In order to view the HTML version of E-News, the software you use to read your e-mail, called an e-mail client, must be able to display graphics.

The HTML version of E-News is compatible with newer versions of the following e-mail clients:

Except for Microsoft Outlook, a free version of each of these e-mail clients is available. Click one of the links above to learn how to download and install the software on your computer.

Note that Microsoft Outlook Express can be acquired only as a component of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

Microsoft Outlook is a personal information manager that can be purchased either separately or as part of the Microsoft Office Suite of business applications.

Free Web-Based E-Mail

If you do not have an e-mail account, or if your online service does not deliver HTML e-mail, then you might consider signing up with one of the many free Web-based e-mail providers. They provide a free e-mail account that you can use to send and receive e-mail via your Web browser. Since these services are Web-based, viewing the HTML version of E-News should not be a problem. In some cases you can also access your e-mail with an oridinary e-mail client.

You can find a list of free Web-based e-mail providers at

These services generally make their money through the advertising they display on their Web sites. Midwifery Today does not endorse any particular e-mail provider.

Special Instructions for AOL Subscribers

The e-mail reader included with AOL 5 and earlier is not compatible with HTML. However, it is possible to view your e-mailed copy of HTML E-News in your AOL browser (instead of the e-mail reader). We have provided instructions for doing so on the following page:
